Bowing to the Golden Image
In The Bible, the story of a wicked king named Nebuchadnezzar created a golden image 90 feet tall and required all citizens in his kingdom to bow down and worship the image at his command. Those who did not would be burned alive. Three men refused to do this because it was a clear and obvious violation of a Commandment given them by their God to neither make such images or bow down to them.
Today, in America we have a golden image that is commonly referred to as our government. I am of course not speaking of legitimate government as our Constitution clearly delineates, one that is limited, defined and whose motto is “In God We Trust”. The golden image I am speaking of is one which has sought to not only uproot every vestige of God from our country but has sought to put itself in the place of that same God.
In the story of Nebuchadnezzar and his blasphemous image, found in the Third Chapter of Daniel, there was no pretext or subtlety, either literally bow down or literally die. Today in America we are not being required to bow our knee literally, instead we are ordered to submit in every area of our life. According to our “public servants”, we are “free” to worship God, so long as it doesn’t interfere with anything our government may wish to do. One would think that such an attitude by our elected and unelected public servants would draw immediate condemnation and fire from our pulpits but sadly, the pulpits have been hijacked and handed over to mere hirelings and cowards.
In our story from Daniel regarding King Nebuchadnezzar, there were at least three men (Shadrach, Meschech and Abendengo) who gave a very clear refusal to bow to the golden image. These men said “If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king. But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.” Today, the Christian church in America is being required to do far more than simply bow down to the golden image, they are being required to supply some of the gold to make it, to help build it, to set it up and worst of all, are insisting that others join them in worshipping it.
Government in America now actively seeks to replace God in the lives of everyone. Instead of relying on God for our sustenance, the strength and ability to earn a living and the blessings of having our needs met through the honorable endeavor of work we simply need to turn our faces and hands towards Washington DC or our local state capital, bow our knee and they will shower us with manna from above courtesy of money extracted at gunpoint from other citizens.
Instead of relying on God for our protection and safety and asking him to give us the ability and courage to defend ourselves, we are told to again bow down to the golden image and ignore the rampant criminality which has overrun our neighborhoods. In fact, if we dare take matters into our own hands, our “public servants” will deal with us more severely than they would ever dare deal with the actual malefactors, criminals and lawbreakers.
These and other offenses are bad enough in and of themselves because they clearly require us to put government in place of God in a very literal sense but the outrages don’t end there. Indeed, Christians are being required through taxation to fund such abominable practices as abortion, the murder of unborn babies. Any Christian that dares do more than quietly express outrage (and even then one must be careful not to do so within earshot of the golden image) will be found in violation of a host of federal laws – the fiery furnaces are stoked up and waiting.
Further, Christians are required to support; again through their tax dollars, illegal and un-Constitutional legislation that not only defies their religious principles but actually works to destroy them. Preachers can no longer say that certain practices are sinful lest they possibly offend one of the many overly aggressive “victim” groups in our society. While it is seen as un-Constitutional to post a copy of the Ten Commandments in our nations courtrooms (because they are paid for with tax dollars) little is said about the National Endowment for the Arts or National Public Radio using these same tax dollars to publicly excoriate, insult, denigrate and abuse Christians and Christianity in general.
Today, as the golden image stands in the courthouse square and I avoid drawing near lest I be imprisoned for spitting upon it instead of worshipping it, I wonder where the Shadrach, Meschech’s and Abendengo’s could be. I keep looking to the pulpits of America for such leadership but it is sadly absent. The miserable excuses we have for pastors today are not just running away and hiding they are actually standing near the image and insisting that Christians draw near and bow down. Instead of preparing themselves for the fiery furnaces in response to their refusal to worship the golden image of government, our modern day preachers insist that any refusal to obey government is a sin. Interestingly these same pretenders and poseurs will caveat their fealty to the golden image with “unless of course it violates the Bible”. I have to scratch my head and wonder if they have ever actually read the Bible (perhaps it’s one of those new translations, the pro-socialist Bible perhaps?) or if they are waiting for our abortion providing, sin pandering, God hating public servants to actually erect a literal golden image before they will finally stand upon the principles they so falsely pontificate.
Given their past record and the fact that a groveling coward rarely changes his yellow streak, I don’t look for much leadership from the pulpits of America today. I think that if they were alive in the days of Shadrach Meschech and Abendengo, they would have been part of the throngs bowing down before the false image, after all, they wouldn’t want to lose their 501c3 status or the opportunity to apply for some stolen money through Faith Based Initiatives.
